Irish Black Butter Selected by Fortnum & Mason and Now on the Shelves of Britain’s Most Iconic Food Hall
Irish Black Butter has reached another significant milestone after being selected as one of just 15 winning brands in the Fortnum & Makers Open Call 2026, earning a place on the shelves of the world-famous Fortnum & Mason store in Piccadilly, London. The nationwide search attracted more than 450 independent food and drink producers from across the UK and Ireland, with winners chosen for their exceptional flavour, craftsmanship, provenance and sustainability. For more than 300 years, Fortnum & Mason has been renowned for discovering and championing extraordinary food producers, making selection through its Open Call a remarkable endorsement of quality and originality. Fortnum’s described Irish Black Butter as a modern interpretation of a historic medieval preserve, crafted from PGI Armagh Bramley Apples that are gently slow-cooked with spices and treacle to create a bold, versatile heritage speciality rich in provenance and flavour. Now available in-store at Fortnum’s Piccadilly, Irish Black Butter proudly takes its place alongside some of the finest artisan foods in the world. The achievement not only celebrates the revival of a centuries-old Irish tradition but also shines a spotlight on Northern Ireland’s rich food heritage and the exceptional quality of its local ingredients.
Founder Alastair said, “To see Irish Black Butter on the shelves of Fortnum & Mason is an incredibly proud moment. Fortnum’s has long been synonymous with exceptional food and craftsmanship, and to have our product recognised by their buying team is a wonderful endorsement of everything we stand for—heritage, provenance and creating a truly distinctive taste of Ireland.”
From the orchards of County Armagh to one of the world’s most celebrated food halls, Irish Black Butter continues to prove that authentic Irish craftsmanship and timeless flavour belong on the global stage.
