NASHVILLE – The rich, spiced taste of Irish Black Butter stole the show at this year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations at Cannery Hall. Among a lineup of Irish music, dancing, and traditional fare, this unique Northern Irish spread became a surprising favourite.
Guests sampled it on everything from chicken and pork, on wheaten bread with salmon and in ‘fifteens.’The deep apple and treacle flavor — with hints of spice — had many lining up for seconds.
“It’s like apple butter, but with a dark, magical twist,” commented one festival-goer.
Irish Black Butter, made with Armagh Bramley apples, cider, treacle, and spices, is gaining popularity in the U.S., and its Nashville debut made a lasting impression. With so many asking where to buy it, it’s safe to say this black gold might become a pantry staple beyond St. Paddy’s Day.
